Making a Difference … in your kids or grandkids lives.

WHIL’s to live by… Winning Habits In Life

Chapter 1: Overall Concept

  • Written by a Grandfather for other grandparents/parents to shape the lives of their loved ones- To make a difference.
  • The baby boomer generation is the largest segment. What are they doing: golf, travel, focussing on themselves. They also want to stay connected to family. There is an opportunity to set aside time and energy to make a personal difference with their family members.
  • Give your kids and grandkids an edge.
  • They are not going to learn in the Whil’s in school.
  • Kids maybe not even learn them from their parents - Of course they will be learning plenty of other things.
  • Parents are busy and just trying to get through daily routines. First one was 100% responsibility.
  • Teachers already have a set curriculum and are teaching the basics.
  • The WHILS are concepts that many of us got later in life, from corporate training programs when we were in our late 20’s, 30’s and beyond.
  • Concept is to help our kids adapt the right habits when they are young, between 6 and 14 years old.
  • Studies show that a person’s behaviors are primarily formed early in life: “you are what you were when, you were around 10 to 12 years old”.

-  You probably have heard of these habits, maybe even has been introduced to them in a corporate training program: a lot harder to internalize them later in life.

- When your grandkids or children ask who was most influential person in their lives, would you like them to say your name?

Chapter 2: How the WHIL’s Began

  • We were on a family vacation at Fripp Island SC in 2012 and had rented a home near the beach over the 4th of July holiday.
  • In the morning before we went to the beach, my grandsons were all playing games in the living room on the floor.
  • Davis, our two year old grandson, was running around the room and fell over his brother’s outstretched leg. Jack did not try to trip Davis. When he fell he immediately said that “Jack tripped me”.
  • At that very moment a feeling came over me that I could make a big difference in Davis’s live if I helped him understand that Jack did not intentionally trip him. That it was Davis’s responsibility to avoid the leg and fall. He could have jumped over it, stopped and asked Jack to move his leg, or any other action.
  • So, taking 100% Responsibility began the first WHIL.
  • The other 11 WHIL’s followed based on my experience with corporate training programs and motivational speakers.
  • None of the WHIL’s are invented by me. They are are common knowledge that we all hear about as we pass through life.
  • Few if any of us had the WHIL’s engrained in our DNA early in life so as to become our core habits.
  • Now is the chance for you to do that for your loved ones.
